Computational fluid dynamics (CFD)

Statistical models

Flexible 2D- and 3D-finite-volumen (FV) methods are used for the solution of statistically time-averaged flow equations. Turbulent exchange can be computed by different versions of the k - e - turbulence model. Computations can be performed also with surface-adopted grids. The grids are generated using ICEM-software and the results are visualized with TECPLOT-software. FLOVENT-Software is used for multiple flow computations in the field of building aerodynamics.
Large-Eddy-Simulation

FV-methods are used to resolve the motion of large scale turbulence. Small scale turbulence is simulated by different subgrid models delivering also dynamic loads. The FV-methods as well as the pre- und postprocessing is similar to statistical methods.
Computers
Different computer facilities, as well as high-speed parallel computers and the computer center of the university of Karlsruhe can be used to compute flow fields of different kind.
